If you just brought home a white bull terrier, this is worth reading. Skin sensitivity is common in white bullies and knowing that going in will save you a lot of stress and guesswork down the road.

Penelope's allergies showed up within her first few months. I went through every possible variable over the years. Different proteins, shampoos, laundry detergents, household cleaners, grass exposure. I never found one clear trigger and honestly that is pretty normal. Some dogs just have reactive immune systems and it shows up through the skin.

What I would tell someone starting out is to document everything, work with a vet who knows the breed, and have an honest conversation about medication options sooner rather than later. Apoquel has been the thing that finally gave Penelope consistent relief and I wish I had not waited so long to try it.

None of this has made having her any less rewarding. Quite the opposite. Twelve years of figuring it out together has made the bond that much stronger. White bull terriers are incredible dogs. They just need owners who are willing to pay attention and put in the work, and if you are here you probably already are that kind of person.
