Adopting

Adopting a bull terrier: your questions, answered.

How adoption works on the Bull Terrier Rescue Network, what to expect, and where to go next.

How do I adopt a bull terrier through the Bull Terrier Rescue Network?

Find a dog on the Adopt page and press Apply to Adopt. That takes you to the rescue's own application, because every dog on the network is listed by its rescue and adopted through that rescue's process. The Bull Terrier Rescue Network is a free directory; it does not place dogs itself.

How much does it cost to adopt a bull terrier?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Every dog's profile links to its rescue's application, and each rescue's page in the rescue directory has its contact details for questions about fees.

Where can I find a bull terrier rescue near me?

The rescues by state pages list the verified bull terrier rescues and their available dogs in each state. Right now the network includes California Paws Rescue in California and Winnie's Haven in Arizona. On the Adopt page you can search by ZIP code and distance.

Are the rescues on the network legitimate?

Every rescue on the network is a verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit. A rescue's dogs go live only after its 501(c)(3) status is confirmed.

Are bull terriers good with kids, other dogs or cats?

It depends on the individual dog. Every dog's profile shows what the rescue knows: good with dogs, cats or kids, or not. Tell the rescue about your household; they know each dog best.

Is a bull terrier a good dog for a first-time owner?

Bull terriers are not for everyone. They need structure, exercise and an owner who understands that their stubbornness is intelligence in disguise. If you are new to the breed, the forum's Settling In section is there for the first weeks.

Can I foster a bull terrier?

Rescues rely on foster homes. To foster, contact a rescue on the network directly; the rescue directory has their details. The forum's Fostering section is for fosters and people thinking about it.

What should I do if my adopted bull terrier isn't working out?

Talk to your rescue first. Before you decide anything, post in the forum's Before You Return Your Dog section, where people who have been there will respond.

Is there an app?

Yes. The Bull Terrier Rescue Network app for iPhone has the dogs, the forum and new-dog alerts. An Android version is in testing, and Android users can join the beta from the app page.

How does a rescue get listed?

Listing is free. A rescue sends its details and proof of 501(c)(3) status; once it is verified, its available dogs appear automatically from its own listings, with no ongoing work. Start at List Your Rescue.
