Donorbox

Donorbox is built specifically for nonprofits that want a donation form they can embed directly on their own website. It's the best option if you want donors to give without leaving your rescue's page, and it makes setting up monthly recurring donations simple.

How to get started

  1. 1Sign up at donorbox.org. You'll need your nonprofit's EIN to verify.
  2. 2Connect your Stripe or PayPal account to receive payouts.
  3. 3Create your first campaign and customize the donation form with your rescue's colors and logo.
  4. 4Set suggested donation amounts that tie to real costs (e.g. $35 covers a vet visit).
  5. 5Enable recurring donations so supporters can give monthly with one click.
  6. 6Copy the embed code and paste it onto your rescue's website.
  7. 7Share the direct campaign link on social media for donors who find you there.

Facebook & Instagram

Facebook Fundraisers are free for registered nonprofits; Meta covers all processing fees. Instagram lets you add donation stickers directly to posts and stories. Together they put your fundraiser in front of people already following your rescue, and they can share it to their own networks instantly.

How to get started

  1. 1Make sure your rescue has a Facebook Page (not a personal profile) and is registered as a nonprofit on Facebook.
  2. 2Apply for Facebook's charitable giving tools at facebook.com/donate; approval usually takes a few days.
  3. 3Once approved, create a Facebook Fundraiser from your Page and set a goal, end date, and story.
  4. 4Pin the fundraiser to the top of your Page so it's the first thing visitors see.
  5. 5On Instagram, connect your account to your Facebook Page and enable the Donate button on your profile.
  6. 6Add donation stickers to Instagram Stories when sharing photos of dogs in your care.
  7. 7Encourage your followers to start their own birthday fundraisers for your rescue. They add up fast.
