This one still shakes me a little even now. Penelope ended up in the emergency vet for three days with pancreatitis. It was one of the scariest experiences I have had with her in 12 years together. Bull terriers can be prone to it and once they have had it once the risk goes up, so diet became something I took a lot more seriously after that. Not that I wasn't already a freak about it to begin with.
She is now on Dr. Harvey's Canine Health with 99% lean raw ground turkey. It is strict and there is no deviation, but she is thriving on it and that is all that matters. After watching her that sick I am not willing to gamble.
The thing about pancreatitis is it can come on fast and it is easy to mistake for a regular upset stomach. She was vomiting, hunched over, completely off her food. If your dog shows those signs together please get them to a vet right away and do not wait it out.
She is 12 now and honestly doing great. The right diet made a huge difference in her overall health and energy. These dogs are tough and resilient. With the right care they bounce back and keep going.
